I bought the
car in 1998 (in pieces) from the brother of a guy who bought it to make
a 1/4 mile car out of. He modified the motor mounts to accept a Chevy
350 and threw a set of 3.54 rear gears in it. Needless to say, I wanted
this car to be just like one you could have walked into your local AMC
dealer and ordered. The car was originally a six cylinder but the guy
found a V8 cross member to modify. This actually made my job a LOT
easier. I brought the motor mounts back to how they should have been,
sourced a correct AMC V8 from a Jeep CJ, switched out the rear gears and
three years later, the car looked (and still looks) like this. There are
at least a thousand little (and some not so little) things that I'd like
to do to it so I will probably never consider it "completed,"
but it has been a load of fun and learning!
